*****Don’t forget to SPRING AHEAD. Set your clocks ahead one hour before you go to bed Saturday night.

*****Brianna Francis, daughter of former Blanco County resident Mark Francis & wife Laura, competed in the Southern Sectional Swimming Championships at Texas A&M University, Mar 5-7. Way to go, Briana! Mark & his family make their home in Sandy, Utah.

*****Two new babies in Johnson City’s extended families. Kirk & Crystal Sultemeier Braden are the proud parents of Carsen & Michele Braden born March 1. Great grand Bernice Casparis is tickled pink.

*****Then on March 2, Connor Austin Farrell was welcomed by parents Derek & Christine Keene Farrell. And grandparents Cynthia & Ed Keene are not excited a bit!

*****Patsy Martin is recuperating from hip replacement surgery. Hope she is up and around soon!

*****The first graders of LBJ Elementary went to San Antonio to the Magik Theater to see "If You Give a Moose a Muffin". A great time was had by all. Having parents and grandparents on a field trip is so great.

*****Patty and Tim Elliott wore themselves out silly, on the slopes of Breckenridge, while also visiting daughter Becky and husband Marco. After 3 days, they were ready for a little R & R at their desks in JC!

*****Michala Zbytovsky celebrated her March 9th birthday last Friday at Barton Creek Mall. Her and five of her friends went on a scavenger hunt. Michala’s mom, Emily Zbytovsky, and her friend, Tammy Liesmann, were the adult supervision. Tammy and her group of three were soon pulled over by the Mall Cop and the hunt was ended. They made the best of the evening by shopping and going to the movies.

*****Get well wishes to Mary & Ed Weirich! While Mary was recuperating after surgery at home, Ed broke his leg! Heal quickly, both of you!

*****Sidney Shumake has been building Dillard’s Dept. Stores for over 15 years and just completed his first project here in Texas, and would like to invite everyone out to The Grand Opening of the Dillard’s project in North Austin at the Domain on March 11th at 10:00 a.m.

*****Spring Break is next week for JCISD. Hope everyone has a safe and wonderful week.

*****Eco-Lonestar Adventure Race was held at Pedernales Falls Park on Saturday, March 6. Two person teams were challenged by 9-14 miles of mountain biking, 2-4 miles of trail running & other mystery events.

*****The boys baseball team and the girls softball team had a great weekend of play. The boys won our own LBJ Tournament and the girls brought home 2nd place in Blanco.

*****Belated birthday greetings to Ray Sultemeier from March 5th. Ray was honored with a birthday luncheon on Tuesday, March 2nd at Texas Highway 290 Diner. Over a dozen friends wished her well & helped her celebrate.

*****On Saturday night Johnson City citizens and friends gathered at the JC Methodist Activity Center for the Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Bingo Benefit for the JC Library. The focus of fund-raising these days has shifted from building a library to servicing the debt on the building that opened in November 2008. The new library is the center of activity serving as a venue for civic groups and organizations. The library is a center for continuing education in the form of book discussions, excursions, historical activities, displays, writers’ and artists’ classes, and more. JC is fortunate to have an active and attractive library. The library belongs to all of us. You can explore the possibilities by logging on to the web site at jclibrarysite.org.

*****AARP is offering its four-hour course on safe driving for seniors at 9 am Saturday, March 13, at the First United Methodist Church. It’s open to anyone, but is aimed at drivers aged 55 or better. Completion of the class earns a discount on car insurance from most companies (but it doesn’t count for ticket dismissal). Cost is $12 for AARP members or $14 for non-members. The course is sponsored by the Marvelously Mature (M&Ms) group at the church. To register, call JoAnn in the church office at 868-7414.

*****You might be a Johnson City native if you can remember when some golfers, including Truman Fawcett, played golf in Lambert Flat & out Miller Creek Loop (Terrell’s Lane) on the Truman Odiorne property.

*****Happy Birthday wishes to: March 12th – Joel Duncan, Mary Ann Thurlkill, Billie Crider & Johnnie Denton; March 13th – Melanie Crawford & Wendy Sultemeier; March 15th – Jake Renfro, Braden Stueler, & Harris Greenwood; March 16th – Keith Ulrich & Paul Axtell; March 17th – Amy Woods; and on March 18th – Steve Nettles, Willow Grote, Ralph Moss & Carlette Jividen.

*****Anniversary congratulations to Jimmy & Lisa Moore on March 14th.

*****Tip for the week: Measuring Cups - Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don’t dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.
