Looking for an alternative to your child sitting in front of the TV the entire week of spring break? Well, look no further. The Uptown Blanco Art Center, located on Third Street just west of the Blanco downtown square, is offering a spring break camp focusing on "The Basics of Art" for kids 6 years and older. Camp dates are March 15-18, Monday through Thursday, from 9am-2 pm. Instructors Mary Johnston, Maggie Goodman, and Olga Ibarra will lead the participants through programs filled with clay construction, basic drawing principles, art history, and oil painting.

With the camp curriculum, the children will create 3-D sculptures, learn about art history from the Cave Man- Pop Art, and have a special opportunity to oil paint with Olga Ibarra. Ms. Ibarra, beloved by Blanco children, has taught art for over a decade in Blanco.

The $135 fee includes all materials; clay, oil paint, canvas, and drawing supplies. A healthy snack will be provided every morning, and children will need to bring their own sack lunch Along with all the instruction, there will be a half hour of supervised free time for the children to enjoy the spring air. On Thursday, parents and friends are invited from 12:30-1:30 to an Art Center Open House to see all the beautiful work the students have created. For more details about the curriculum or to register, please call Mary Johnston, Director, at 830-833-2514 or visit our website www.uptownblanco.com. Regular hours at the Art Center are Monday through Friday 9-5. Stop by anytime. We’re looking forward to a fun and educational spring break camp! Hurry as space is limited and camp spots will fill quickly.
