The Johnson City Library is the hub of the JC community because imaginative programs and engaging activities occur there. Johnson City’s love affair with the library begins at first sight because the library’s attractive Hill Country exterior of cedar and limestone is so inviting. Patrons immediately feel comfortable just looking at the library: it is beautiful but not imposing. The library’s exterior seems to say to patrons, "come in and stay awhile." The welcoming spirit that permeates the library can be sensed from the moment you open the front door. The knowledgeable staff and the dedicated volunteers take special pride in offering assistance to patrons. The library is open Monday through Saturday for a total of fifty-five hours a week. Compare these hours to those of city libraries and you will see how blessed we are in Johnson City. Moreover, the employees and volunteers help to create a sense of optimism and joy that is as much a part of the JC Library as the books that fill the shelves. They are glad to see you and ready to assist you. Patrons who come to the computer room are pleased to find state-of-the-art Internet services available. Traffic in the children’s area begins with preschoolers and their mothers followed by clusters of elementary children seeking recreational books after school. On Saturday morning the youngest patrons to visit the amphitheater, volunteers thrill young visitors with favorite stories followed by an informal time for snacks. This makes the library their special clubhouse. The community meeting room at the back of the library is one of the most frequently used spaces in Johnson City. It is such a busy place it has its own calendar.

The Johnson City Library gets a large percentage of its operating income from sales tax revenue generated by business activity in North Blanco County that does not include the City of Johnson City. In addition, the operation of the library is made possible by donations from several generous local individuals, businesses and organizations as well as a stipend from the City of Johnson City. Many organizations dedicate fund-raising activities to library support.

This Saturday, March 6, 2010, is the Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Bingo Benefit for the Llibrary. A silent auction of Treasures from Granny’s Attic will complete the event. For tickets, please visit the library, and while you are there, look at the interesting auction items available. For a virtual shopping trip, visit the library’s website at www.jclibrarysite.org and bid on the items in the silent auction. We hope to see you at the Spaghetti Dinner event this Saturday as you support your library.
