The LBJ Eagle varsity boys basketball team closed out the first round of district play last Friday evening with a thrilling 47-40 victory over the Comfort Bobcats. Kris McDonald & London McQueen convert 6 of 8 free throws in the final minute to help the Eagles claim the victory. Comfort had cut the Eagles lead to 41-40 with less then 30 seconds left before McDonald & McQueen converted their free throw attempts to ensure the win.
The game was close throughout with Comfort holding an 18-17 lead at halftime. The Eagles came out hot in the 3rd period as McDonald scored 10 straight points for LBJ to help them take a 3 point lead into the fourth quarter. The Eagles did a solid job in the defensive end as they allowed their opponent to score just 40 points for the 3rd straight game. The win improved the Eagles district record to 3-3, they are 11-10 for the season.
McDonald was leading scorer with 18 points followed by McQueen with 11 points. McQueen also led the team in rebounds with 5 followed by Jordan Jones & Laramie Blackwell with 4 each. Cody Atwood & McQueen led the team in assists with 3 each. McQueen and Jones led in steals with 4.
Earlier in the week the Eagles traveled to San Antonio to take on the defending regional finalists the Randolph Ro-Hawks. The Eagles held a slim 18-16 led at the half but saw their offense stumble in the 2nd half as they could only manage 9 points in the 3rd & 4th periods. They were defeated 40-27. Jacob Sisson was high point scorer for LBJ with 15 points he also led in rebounds with 8. Sisson & McDonald led the team in steals with 3 each. Wyatt Eubanks had 3 blocks in the game.
The Eagles played at home on Tuesday evening against the Brooks Academy Bengals. This game was parents night for the boys. They will travel to Harper on Friday. The JV game is set to begin at 5 pm and the varsity game at approximately 8 pm. Please come out and support your Eagle boys basketball teams.
