Something’s coming…you can feel the excitement in the air. Please save the date…Saturday, March 6, 2010 for the Bingo Benefit for the Library. Complete with the wonderful spaghetti dinner and amazing silent auction, March 6 is the day when all of Johnson City will rally to support the JC Library at this year’s benefit to be held at the Johnson City Methodist Church Activities Building.

Challenging economic times have had their effect on tax revenues in Johnson City; therefore, the benefit is even more important this year. Forty per cent of the library’s operating fund comes from a small portion of the sales tax collected in Johnson City. The library board anticipates the possibility of a 12 per cent short fall in sales tax revenues this year.

JC Woman’s Club Silent Auction co-chairs Becky Crider and Karen Brugnoli are trying something a little different this year. They call it Treasures from Grannie’s Attic. They have asked JC Woman’s Club members and other interested citizens to raid their attics and barns to bring together a treasure trove of delights that are both valuable and historically significant. In addition, there will be some of the favorite items that appear each year such as the Dessert of the Month 2010, a series of twelve homemade desserts; opening day deer hunt; weekend at the Pedernales River Guest House; and a fancy cake on a stand made by one of our best bakers. Among the items gathered are several pieces of framed art, silver serving pieces, Imperial Carmel Slag glass animals made on the old Heisey molds, collectible LuRay dinnerware, a reproduction of a fine antique lamp and silver jewelry. Furniture items include an antique wardrobe, 1900 platform rocker, pair of buffalo back chairs, and a designer chair. The items will be displayed during library hours at the JC Library from Tuesday, February 16 until Saturday, March 6. Potential buyers can also log onto the library website www.jclibrarysite.org and click on the Silent Auction tabe to view the treasures and get instructions on how to bid on the items prior to March 6. The bidding on auction items will conclude at 8:00 PM on March 6, 2010.

To purchase your tickets for $8 each (dinner only), you can stop by the library or contact any member of the Woman’s Club.
