I love sports. Always have, always will. My all time favorites have to be football and basketball. Second best are baseball/softball and volleyball. I played sports in high school, which at that time, there were fewer girls’ sports to participate in. I played volleyball and basketball and tried very hard to stay away from any type of track event.
Over the years my love for football and softball have come more to the surface. Coy (16) has played football forever. Pop Warner, Jr. High, JV and Varsity Football. He started out as an offensive lineman and stayed there. Michala (11) has a love for softball. She has played a little short stop and first base but she has become a catcher. She wouldn’t have it any other way.
I give you this information because most parents would want their child running, catching or throwing the football. So at most football games you will hear me yelling, ‘Go Line’. It takes the offensive line to move that football down field and without one you will go nowhere. As far as Mac’s catcher position, who would want to wear all that gear and have bats swung near your head for any length of time? Never has she complained about being hot or tired. They just love the game.
And how I just love to get them to all those games and practices. They are normally strung out to each end of Johnson City. I have gotten home before and asked Mac how Shay was doing. Mac turned to me and said, ‘Mom, Shay is at Nana’s’. So back to town I go to pick up that kid I forgot. We run around with our heads cut off trying to please these kids and the passion for the activity that they are involved in.
Color coding your calendar does help, but you have to look at the calendar every once in a while. I always seem to forget. Mac has gymnastics every Wednesday, along with church. Shay also attends church on Wednesdays. Coy has basketball everyday after school. Basketball is soon to come to an end for this year and Coy will be done with sports. Then Mac’s softball takes center stage, but in the back drop we will be carting little Shay around to T-Ball practice. All because they love the game.
