The American Cancer Society, Relay For Life is what we are talking about. Blanco County will be hosting it’s 6th annual Relay For Life on Saturday, April 24 at the Johnson City Football Stadium.
Relay is a fun-filled event for the whole family. We honor the cancer survivors with a dinner and a survivor/caregiver lap. We also honor the survivors and remember the ones that have lost their battle with cancer, with a luminaria candle ceremony. Relay For Life teams will be walking the track, having games to play and selling foods of all kinds. Teams consist of 8-15 people: friends, family or co-workers who want to have fun and help raise money together. There will also be entertainment and a silent auction.
Now, we need all of Blanco County to come together and help make this Relay For Life a success. There are many ways that you can volunteer to make a difference. Have a Relay Team, celebrate as a survivor, be on the committee, help the night of the Relay, make a cash or silent auction donation, or just come out and support this event the night of the Relay.
Blanco County Relay for Life had its first meeting on January 26 at the PEC Auditorium. Approximately 7 teams signed up that night. The business meeting included goals for fundraising and the goal for the number of teams. The theme this year is "More Birthdays." Please come and join Relay for Life and help us make more birthdays possible for those with cancer. Our next meeting will be held at Blanco Methodist Church on February 16, 6:00 p.m.
Teams are forming now. If you would like to have a team or be on a team, please call Peggy Berryhill at 830-833-5851 or email berry@moment.net. If you are a survivor or know a survivor who would like to celebrate with us, please call Wendy Smith at 830-833-5584 or email wendy78606@txwinet.com.
To make a cash donation, you can go online at www.relayforlife.org/blancocotx. Any other questions, please call Sylvia Romero at 830-833-5245 or email sromero@moment.net.
All money made from this event will go to the American Cancer Society for research, education and advocacy. 1 out of every 4 people will get cancer. Together we can make a difference, and maybe one day find a cure.
