The LBJ Eagle varsity boys basketball team continued their trek through the district season this past week with games against the Brooks Academy Bengals and Harper Longhorns. The Eagles took on Brooks Academy on Tuesday, January 26 at the LBJ gym. They got off to a quick start scoring the first 11 points of the game in running out to a 16-6 first quarter lead. The Eagles built on that lead in the 2nd quarter extending it to 33-18 at halftime. The Eagles increased the lead quickly in the 3rd quarter and cruised the rest of the way for a 56-47 victory.
Kris McDonald was the leading scorer with 15 points followed by Cody Atwood with 14 points and Jordan Jones with 10 points. Wyatt Eubanks led the team in rebounds with 7 followed by Jacob Sisson with 6. Laramie Blackwell and Jones each had 4 boards. McDonald & Atwood led the team in assists with 5 each. They also led in steals with 7 for Atwood and 5 for McDonald. Blackwell led in blocks with two.
On Friday evening, January 29 LBJ traveled to Harper to take on the undefeated in district Longhorns. The game was a close, exciting thriller that wasn’t decided until the final minute. The score was tied at the end of the first period at 10 but the Eagles fell behind at halftime 28-21. LBJ outscored Harper in the 3rd period 15-12 to cut the lead to 40-36 heading into the final quarter. The 4th quarter was intense and hard fought with the Longhorns coming away with a 49-43 win.
Atwood was high scorer for LBJ with 16 points followed by Jones & Eubanks who each had 9 points. Eubanks led in rebounds with 13, Sisson, Blackwell and Atwood each had 5 while London McQueen had 4 boards. Sisson led the team in assists with 3. Jones led in steals with 4. The Eagles are presently 4-4 in district 27-2A play and 12-11 overall.
This week LBJ has Tuesday open and then hosts Cole on Friday evening. The JV game will start at 5 pm in the high school gym. The varsity game will start at approximately 8 pm. Please come out and support your LBJ Eagles as they continue their push for the playoffs.
