Former President, and local hero, Lyndon B. Johnson once said, "The vote is the most powerful instrument ever devised by man for breaking down injustice and destroying the terrible walls which imprison men because they are different from other men." As the local elections begin to heat up in surrounding communities, candidates for the small hill country town of Johnson City are also busily putting forth their best efforts to secure the votes of local residents. Three seats on the Johnson City – City Council are up for election, Alyce Duncan, Ralph Moss, and James Stevenson. The first day to file for a position on the City Council with the City of Johnson City is February 6th. This is also when it is time to file for open positions with the Johnson City ISD School Board. Two seats are up on the JCISD School Board, Randy Brodbeck and Kip Thompson. The last day candidates may file for election is March 8th. The election will take place Saturday, May 8th at the Johnson City Middle School cafeteria. Early voting will be held at City Hall from April 26th thru May 4th.
