Dear Editor:
This last weekend, I attended the funeral of my brother-in-law, Mr. Bill Mauldin, a life long member of this community. This funeral was a total surprise to all of our family. When it was time for the procession to go to Miller Creek Cemetery, there was not a police officer available from either county or city for an escort. My thanks to Alton Moreland for stopping traffic on Hwy. 290 so we could start our ride to the grave site.
Also, I’d like to thank Gordon Crow, for stopping traffic on Hwy. 290 at Miller Creek Cemetery. I asked Mr. Butch Crofts out at the grave site what had happened to our escort. He told me that the answer he got when he called about it is that everyone was too busy. All I have to say is that they all should be ashamed of themselves. You’re going to tell me that they couldn’t get one officer to escort one of our finest people in this town to his resting place. Please!!
Disgusted,
Stan Bassett
