Unjudged quilt shows tend to present the best of quilts. People enter their quilts more freely because they know that they will not be judged. Some people don’t want to know if their corners didn’t meet perfectly or if their seams were not even. Of course they know these things, but they don’t want to be told about it.
Kingsland had such a quilt show this past weekend and they had such an array of beautiful quilts. There was no theme and the quilts were all sizes, some unfinished with just the tops and you were left to imagine how great they would be when they got finished.
You can make a simple top or a fancy top, it wouldn’t matter. It is all in the quilting. Quilting can make or break a quilt, so to speak.
One of my favorites was the Texas Wall hanging. The form of Texas was pieced with 1-inch squares in wildflowers and blending fabrics. It was beautiful. That was a lot of tiny squares. I should have counted them but did not think of it at the time.
Another favorite was a very large Dresden Plate made from old ties. You can just imagine how great it was. Lots of work was put into both quilts.
It was a great quilt show and a great way to start off the year by being on the road to look at quilts. It was a beautiful day and a lovely ride. Sometimes you just need to be by yourself and I had a great day.
Happy Quilting, Janie
