The LBJ Eagle varsity boys basketball team opened up their 2010 district season this past Saturday afternoon, January 2, at LBJ High School gym against the Brooks Academy Bengals. Using a solid half court defensive effort and a tremendous defensive rebounding effort the Eagles were able to claim the win over the Bengals 52-33. The Eagles combined for a total of 37 rebounds in the game, 27 of them on the defensive side. Wyatt Eubanks led the team with 18 total rebounds followed by Jacob Sisson with 15 rebounds.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 14-6 lead after the first period and maintained that lead at halftime leading 23-16. The Eagles picked up offensively in the 3rd period scoring 17 points in the quarter to extend their lead to 40-28 going into the final quarter. In the 4th, the Eagles pulled away outscoring Brooks 12-5 for the final margin of 19 points and the 52-33 victory.
Eubanks led the team in points with 16 and also had 6 blocks. Kris McDonald scored 13 points and Jacob Sisson also scored in double figures with 10 points. Rounding out the scoring for LBJ was Cody Atwood with 7 points and Jordan Jones with 6 points. Jones led the team in steals with 6 . The Eagles are now 1-0 in district play and 9-7 overall. They will host the Harper Longhorns on Tuesday evening and have an open date this Friday. Their next game will be at Cole on Tuesday, January 12.
