The Garden Club gathered at the home of Nancy Talley last Thursday for our December meeting and Chinese Christmas exchange. When you walked in the door of Nancy’s very festive home you were overwhelmed with the Christmas spirit, everywhere you looked was a different kind of Christmas tree or display.

President Pearl Hedlund guided the club though a quick meeting, reports were made by committee chairpersons, and the ladies who make and sell the ornaments in the Courthouse got a big round of applause. They have sold close to $7,000 worth of ornaments so far this year. Our hats go off to these ladies who work all year to prepare for this sale. Not only do they sell ornaments, they spread cheer and good tidings with all the guests who visit the Courthouse. We had one surprised member...the hostesses surprised Joycelyn Carter with a birthday cake to celebrate her upcoming 80th birthday!

Delicious refreshments were served by hostesses, Freda Baber, Candy Falatko, Louise Paterson, Chelita Riley, and Cynthia Smith. We had an array of Christmas goodies and appetizers. While everyone was enjoying the refreshments the gift exchange started, it is always fun to get the perfect gift, then try to hide it so someone doesn’t steal it. We can’t say that Ola Matus did this very well, she had four gifts stolen, but she set a record for getting to unwrap the most gifts! Ola won the door prize as well, so she did get to keep that!

The meeting adjourned and it was agreed that a good time was had by all, with everyone being in the Christmas spirit! Our next meeting will be January 14th in the home of Barbara Counts. Our program will be "Lady Bird and the Environment" presented by Gus Sanchez. We look forward to seeing everyone in the new year. Merry Christmas to all and a very Happy New Year!
