AgriLife Extension is hosting a new program to help entrepreneurs establish small farming operations on their land.

"Small Acreage Horticultural Crops" is a free program that focuses on helping small-scale producers become more knowledgeable and creative in their business ventures.

"This program hopes to provide useful information that will help launch a love for small farms," said Adrian Schulze of Blanco County Farm Bureau. "Crops that can grow on small acreage include vegetables, fruits and nuts."

The first program featured pecans, grapes and fruits. The second program will be broadcast on April 13 at 10 a.m. and will feature vegetables and greenhouse crops. Other topics, including marketing and economics of small scale production, will also be available at different site selections.

"Sustainability is a big issue these days, including economic sustainability," said Schulze. "What better way to encourage it than to start in your own environment?"
