The Johnson City Independent School Board met Monday, October 12th in regular session. The board began with a campus tour of the middle school. This is the first of two tours of the middle school. The board will also tour both the elementary and high schools.

Following the tour, the board nominated two new members to the Blanco County Central Appraisal District Board of Directors. The two nominees are Will Marasek and Will Shelton.

Next up was consideration of a resolution that would give 4H members protection against unexcused absences. This resolution would enable them to attend 4H events without the consequence of receiving an unexcused absence. Instead, they would receive an excused absence. The resolution was approved.

The board then discussed an increase in the stipend pay for those educators in the district who have received advanced degrees. Those with a Masters degree had been earning an additional stipend of $300.00. That amount has been increased to $1000.00. For those with a Doctorate, the stipend increased from $1000.00-$1500.00

Finally, Superintendent Shanley went over the trigger points for school closures in case of an H1N1 outbreak, reviewing the recommendations from the Health Department and the Centers for Disease Control. To date, an outbreak has not occurred and the district is confident there will be no such closures due to H1N1. Staff on each campus is following district protocol to prevent the transmission of the virus.
