Irene Schaper, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Saturday, September 19, at the age of 82. Irene is survived by 4 children, Leslie Allen and wife JoAnn of Austin, Robert Allen and wife Edith of Las Vegas, Nevada, Audrey Allen of Fredericksburg and Barbara Sasko and husband Stefan of Johnson City. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 step-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son Steven Ray Allen in 1969, her husband Frank Schaper in 1981 and also by a brother, Marvin Schilling. She will be deeply missed by her long-time companion Gary Williamson.
Irene was born on December 30, 1926 at Willow City to Ernest Schilling and Estella Gold Schilling. She attended school at Willow City and graduated from Fredericksburg High School. She was a loving care-giver to family and friends and she worked at Live Oak Nursing home for 23 years and also at Knopp’s Assisted Living caring for the elderly. She enjoyed gardening and reading, along with a good game of “42” and she loved her cats.
Funeral services for Irene Schaper will be held on Thursday, September 24, at 3:00 p.m. in the Beckmann Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Don Higginbotham officiating. Interment will follow in Der Stadt Friedhof. Visitation with the family was Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Beckmann Funeral Home.
