What a lucky community we live in, we have a new Library, and it’s not just a Library, it is a fun place to find books, view oral history about friends you know and love, and share trips, books, and learn new things.
A couple of weeks ago the library tour took its first evening trip to the Rockbox in Fredericksburg. It was a full bus, some had been to the theater before, for some it was a first time visit, what a treat, we couldn’t dance in the aisles, but we were sure keeping time to the music in our seats. The talent was superb, when they offered discount tickets during intermission many were standing in line to buy them, ready to go back!
This past Monday we had the opportunity to watch an oral history video with interviews with George and Rosie Danz, we learned a lot about some of the earlier times in Johnson City. We heard about the flood in 1952, how the community coped, and Rosie’s days working at the Johnson City Bank. She and George had quite a story to tell, and had us laughing and appreciating the kind of people we have living in Johnson City... the best!! These oral history video’s can be checked out at the Library, go by and look at the collection.
The month isn’t over, they will have an art class on the 23rd, this is a new class starting up, so if you are interested check at the Library about joining this group. The Civil War Round Table group will meet on Sept. 29th at 7 p.m. at the Library, everyone is welcome to join in this discussion.
October’s schedule begins on the 6th with our next meeting of Johnson City Writes at 9:30. This informal goup meets to learn from each other about writing stories, recording your history, or tips on how to get your work published. On Oct. 13th we will travel once again to Austin to the LBJ Library and Museum, the sign up sheet is at the front desk in the Library. Oct 20th is Johnson City Reads, our book for October is “The Help”, you can pick up a copy at the Library, this is a excellent book and is on the best seller list.
Check out all these great opportunities, this is your Library, use it, enjoy it, and make the Library your friend!!
