Very Proud Of Our Young People

Dear Editor,

I was fortunate to attend an extraordinary event on Friday morning at Johnson City High School...and wish only that the entire community might have shared in this unprecedented display of creative patriotism.

The audience was inspired to remember the tragic events of 9.11.01 in a special and meaningful way. Under the direction of Nina Goodwin (English), Susie Birck (Social Studies), John Sherrill (Technology) and Principal Julie Storer, the students presented a three-screen, multi-media presentation that blended music, strong visuals and voiceover narration. They wrote and delivered an original poem on the theme of “ONE” that featured many voices in united spirit. The names of our active duty service men and women from Blanco County flashed across the American Flag. Each of us recalled where we were and what we were doing on that fateful morning, when, in the words of Alan Jackson, “the world stopped turning.”

I was very proud of our young people and their teachers. And hope they will continue to be creative in their pursuit of relevant education. We will ALWAYS remember.

God Bless America. God Bless Texas. God Bless Us.
