Plans for Homecoming 2009 at JCISD are in place and everyone is invited to this special community-wide celebration of our Johnson City Schools. Recent Texas Education Agency ratings identify JCISD as a “Recognized District” based on student performance in a number of areas including state-wide testing, attendance and graduation rate. But during Homecoming Week 2009 the focus will be on honoring former graduates, as well as some of the most accomplished student-athletes in the history of the school.

The celebration will begin on the LBJ High School campus with “Spirit Days” - high school students are encouraged to show their Eagle Spirit by dressing up according to a daily theme. The theme for each day is posted in the high school office and on the daily announcements so students can prepare in advance to participate.

On Thursday night the LBJHS Cheerleaders will be hosting a community-wide Pep Rally at Shockley Field. Everyone is encouraged to show up for the 7pm Parade of Athletes wearing maroon and prepared to be “Loud and Proud” in support of our JC Cheerleaders, Cross Country, Football and Volleyball teams.

On Friday the LBJHS FFA Officers will be on hand on all three JCISD campuses for anyone interested in touring the facilities. Included in the tour will be a look at the renovations to the elementary and middle school buildings, as well as the “new” high school, now in the fifth year serving JC students. The FFA guides will be available from 10am to 2pm on all three campuses - guests are required to sign in at the appropriate campus office where the guides will be available.

Friday afternoon the Lady Eagle Volleyball teams will play Brooks Academy in a District 27AA match which begins at 4pm in the high school gym.

The 2009 Homecoming Court will be presented at 6:45pm at Shockley Field prior to the 7:30pm kick-off between the Eagles and Brooks Academy. During halftime the LBJHS Student Council will honor former classes from 1949, 1959, 1969, 1979, 1989, 1999 and 2009 with a “Parade of the Decades”. Then the Eagle Athletic Boosters will be recognizing the UIL State Championship performances of the 1947 Eagle Men’s Basketball Team, 1967 shotputter Glenn Sultemeier and 2003 discus thrower Chad Schaertl. The final event at the half will be the crowning of the 2009 LBJHS Homecoming Queen. To cap off the evening the Fighting Eagle Band will be performing their 2009 show featuring music of the Blue Brothers after the game.

To close out the weekend the LBJHS National Honor Society, Spanish Club and Art Club will be hosting “Coffee and Conversation” for all JCISD alumni Saturday at 9am in the LBJHS Commons.

“We are proud of the recent accomplishments of our students at JC schools, but are also very excited about our plans for Homecoming 2009 - the chance for our current students to connect with graduates from the past and for the former students to reconnect with each other,” states LBJHS Principal Julie Storer. “We talk to students all the time about developing a network of people who can support them and give them access to success after high school and this will give them a chance to meet the very people who have walked these halls before them and gone on to successful and satisfying lives.”

For more information about Homecoming 2009 activities contact the LBJHS office at 830/868-4025. Any graduates from the Honor classes (’49, ’59, ’69, ’79, ’89, ’99, ’09) who did not recieve an invitation in the mail and a complimentary pass to the Volleyball and Football games may contact the office - our thanks to Louis Gravenor for helping with the addresses. No address was available for approximately 20 of the 240 graduates of those classes.
