Fair Pay

In observation of the police salaries as they have been printed in the Johnson City Courier as of late I cannot help but wonder why there is such a discrepancy in pay. In particular, I wonder why the local constable makes one half of what every other law official makes and in fact makes less than county employees. Everyone in the city knows that both constables in Blanco County are available at any time of day or night and know everyone in the local area. For the pay which they receive it is unbelievable that they put their life on the line every day. Granted this is not the big city and there is a low crime rate, but fair is fair. As an elected official there should be a fair and equitable pay based on the pay scale offered all other local law officials. If you do the math, the constables put in full time work which is 2080 man hours a year. At that rate he makes what a checker in the store makes. Being a person that travels around the town I see the local constable just as much as other law enforcement. I tried to contact the local constable in regards to this and he had no comment. If you think this is an issue and agree contact your local commissioners.
