Baylor’s top award – the Regents’ Gold Scholarship – provides National Merit finalists, who have indicated Baylor as their university of choice, with a full tuition academic scholarship to Baylor for up to eight semesters of undergraduate study beginning in fall 2009.

Baylor also awarded students with one of three other merit scholarships awarded on the basis of a combination of class rank and SAT or ACT scores: the President’s Gold Scholarship, which provides $40,000 to $58,000 for eight semesters; the Provost’s Gold Scholarship, which provides $32,000 to $40,000 for eight semesters; the Deans’ Gold Scholarship, which provides $10,000 to $22,000 for eight semesters.

A private Christian university and a nationally ranked liberal arts institution, Baylor University is classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a research university with “high research activity.” This blends with Baylor’s international reputation for educational excellence built upon the faculty’s commitment to teaching, scholarship and interdisciplinary research to produce outstanding graduates.

Chartered in 1845 by the Republic of Texas through the efforts of Baptist pioneers, Baylor is the oldest, continually operating university in the state. Baylor’s 735-acre campus in Waco, Texas, is home to more than 14,000 students from all 50 states and 80 countries.

Baylor’s nationally recognized academic divisions offer 146 baccalaureate, 76 master and 28 doctoral degree programs, plus the juris doctor degree, through its 11 academic units: College of Arts and Sciences, Hankamer School of Business, School of Education, School of Engineering and Computer Science, Honors College, Law School, School of Music, Louise Herrington School of Nursing, School of Social Work, George W. Truett Theological Seminary and the Graduate School.

Baylor is one of the select 11 percent of U.S. colleges and universities with a Phi Beta Kappa chapter. Baylor also ranks in the top 25 of colleges and universities participating in the National Merit Scholarship program.
