The public is invited to a meeting where wind energy and transmission presentations will be made by officials from the Texas Wildlife Association (TWA). The meeting will be at 7pm Wednesday, July 15 at the Gillespie County Farm Bureau building at 237 Equestrian Way.
In his “Wind Energy and Transmission 101” presentation, TWA Secretary Glen Webb will discuss fundamentals and background. Mr. Webb is an attorney in Abilene whose practice is primarily devoted to real estate, probate, trust, tax and energy law. His main interest is protecting the property rights of Texas landowners negotiating renewable energy (solar and wind) leases. He has spoken extensively throughout the state of Texas, including such venues as Texas Tech University, the Texas Wildlife Association Annual Convention and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Landowner Conferences in Austin, Abilene, Lubbock and Amarillo. When he is not practicing law, Mr. Webb operates his family’s Throckmorton County ranch properties where commercial hunting and cow/calf operations are conducted.
The recently adopted TWA position paper on wind energy will be addressed by Kirby Brown, TWA Vice President of Public Policy. As stated in the paper, TWA favors reasonable wind industry regulation that protects Texas’ natural resources and provides permanent bonding authority for remediation, as well as voluntary efforts to develop wind farm standards. The position paper includes recommendations in six specific areas. Mr. Brown will also discuss transmission, land devaluation and eminent domain issues. More information on TWA and the Wind Energy Position Paper can be obtained from their website at http://www.texas-wildlife.org/.
The meeting is being sponsored by the Save Our Scenic Hill Country Environment (SOSHCE) organization. That organization’s website address is : http://soshillcountry.org/ .
