Goodness, here comes July 2009. I cannot believe how the year is flying by. We will be celebrating July 4th on Saturday this year. And this got me to thinking about who actually signed the Declaration of Independence. I did a little research and found http://wiki.answers.com for my answer. This is what I found as to who signed the Declaration of Independence and it took 56 signatures. Delaware: George Read, Caesar Rodney, Thomas McKean. Pennsylvania: George Clymer, Benjamin Franklin, Robert Morris, John Morton, Benjamin Rush, George Ross, James Smith, James Wilson, George Taylor. Massachusetts: John Adams, Samuel Adams, John Hancock, Robert Treat Paine, Elbridge Gerry. New Hampshire: Josiah Bartlett, William Whipple, Matthew Thornton. Rhode Island: Stephen Hopkins, William Ellery. New York: Lewis Morris, Philip Livingston, Francis Lewis, William Floyd. Georgia: Button Gwinnett, Lyman Hall, George Walton. Virginia: Richard Henry Lee, Francis Lightfoot Lee, Carter Braxton, Benjamin Harrison, Thomas Jefferson, George Wythe, Thomas Nelson, Jr. North Carolina: William Hooper, John Penn, Joseph Hewes. South Carolina: Edward Rutledge, Arthur Middleton; Thomas Lynch, Jr. Thomas Heyward, Jr. New Jersey: Abraham Clark, John Hart, Francis Hopkinson, Richard Stockton, John Witherspoon. Connecticut: Samuel Huntington, Roger Sherman, William Williams, Oliver Wolcott. Maryland: Charles Carroll, Samuel Chase, Thomas Stone, William Paca. I feel like all these names are like someone I could meet on the street and visit with. I know that I have read about each one in our history books. It just amazes me that I still remember some of the names. Now, there is our July 4th lesson. See how many names you remember or see if you ever knew these people or studied about them in school. Happy 4th of July to all.

My husband, James, is still ill and is now at St. David’s Hospital, where I am at in Austin. I have been in the hospital a few days. My heart is acting up, but I am sure that I will be good as new soon. A big thank you goes to everyone for cards and phone calls we have received. James and I appreciate your kindness.
