Dear Editor:
My husband and I drove in from Austin on Father’s Day to take my Dad (who drove in from Kerrville) to lunch at the Silver K Café. It was our first time to dine there and it was fabulous. We said our goodbyes and hopped in our vehicles to head back to our respective homes, but as we’re pulling out we notice my Dad running over to us hollering his truck won’t start. It’s Father’s Day and my dad is broken down in Johnson City. Not how he’d hoped his day would turn out.
I’m writing to you to express our sincere gratitude to your police offer, Randy. He happened to be leaving Silver K about the time we realized it wasn’t just a battery issue with the truck. Jumper cables weren’t going to do the trick. He spent a great deal of time with us calling the local mechanic, parts houses, friends who may know of other options, etc. He went on to give us his phone number and said he’d continue to work diligently to help us get the truck up and running. He did exactly as he said, and kept in touch throughout the day. Unfortunately we weren’t able to get in touch with anyone who could help (made sense since it was Sunday and Father’s Day), so we put my dad up in your local Best Western for the night. Randy kept in contact and made sure the truck was fixed first thing Monday morning and delivered to room 108 at the Best Western. With Randy’s help, my dad was back on the road Monday morning.
Randy’s sincere kindness and helpfulness speaks volumes about your lovely town and the values you all hold. It really makes you appreciate small town Texas! He went above and beyond the call of duty and we appreciate it very much. We are truly grateful and will never pass through Johnson City without giving a wave to our good friend Randy. And hopefully we’ll have time to stop into the Silver K too!
