Farm groups across Texas are lending a helping hand to assist the many farmers and ranchers who were devastated by wildfires in the last couple of months.

Hundreds of thousands of acres across Archer, Clay, Jack, Montague, Wichita and Young counties went up in flames during March and April, claiming three lives, dozens of homes and outbuildings and scores of livestock.

“Many of the very worst fires took place over Easter weekend,” said Blanco County Farm Bureau S & T, Adrian Schulze.“Given the severe drought conditions that have clung to many areas of our state, this could have been any one of us. Let’s do everything we can to let our neighbors know we care.”

In response to the devastating wildfires in North Texas, Chisholm Trail RC&D and the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) have established the North Texas Cattlemen’s Relief Fund.

This organization will accept applications from cattlemen who experienced loss during the wildfires, including livestock, feed, equipment, fencing and other related costs. Applications will be accepted until July 1, 2009.

Disbursements will be made by Sept.1, 2009.

Those interested in contributing to the North Texas Cattlemen’s Relief Fund should mail their contribution made payable to: North Texas Cattlemen’s Relief Fund, P.O. Box 1717, Bowie, Texas 76230.

One hundred percent of each donation will benefit livestock producers in the six counties. More information is available at www.chisholmtrailrcd.org.
