On June 8, 2009 Blanco County 4-H members gathered together at the PEC Auditorium in Johnson City for the 2008-2009 Awards Banquet and covered dish dinner.

Guest speaker, Loni Wooley, a member of the Texas Tech University Ag Ambassadors and former Texas 4-H President, encouraged local 4-H members to participate in 4-H beyond the local level. Loni shared her involvement with 4-H during the Centennial year. She met former President George Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush during her reign as Texas 4-H President. She encouraged 4-H members and their families to listen twice as much because “everyone has two ears and only one mouth.” She also encouraged the 4-H members to serve as leaders in the community and not to use obstacles as an excuse for not finding success.

County Extension Agents, Gretchen Sanders and Todd Swift led the Awards portion of the Banquet. Winners included Angie and Wesley Wright as the recipients of the Outstanding Adult Leaders Award. The Friend of 4-H Award was presented to the Blanco County Fair Association and was accepted by Shannon Sultemeier.

The Bronze Star Award was presented to Avery Klepac, the Silver Star Award was presented to Kendra Smith and the Gold Star Award was presented to Elizabeth O’Day. Sixty-two 4-H members received a custom project pin featuring “Blanco County 4-H,” the year and a green clover on white background with a gold border.
