Scott Gardner, a ranch manager from Johnson City, will speak to the Fredericksburg Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas on land management and stewardship on January 27 at the Gillespie County Historical Society Building, 312 West San Antonio Street in Fredericksburg, beginning at 7:00PM. The free meeting is open to the public.

Gardner, a graduate of Texas State University with a degree in geography, has been the manager of the C.L. Browning Ranch in Johnson City for the past six years. Gardner has spent his career promoting stewardship of the Hill Country and Central Texas ecosystems. His job on the Browning Ranch requires him to develop methodologies to analyze scientific information to provide a useful base of knowledge from which to build a solid model for land stewardship.

Gardner will discuss how he has utilized academic institutions and governmental agencies to collaborate on studio projects and research studies with the Browning Ranch to promote good land planning and environmentally sound management practices. He will discuss the land management, on going land development and research projects on the ranch, and highlight re-vegetation strategies for brush pile burn sites.
