The Community Garden Club held its first meeting of the New Year in the lovely home of Barbara Counts. Thirty two members and one guest were present on a beautiful balmy winter day. Jean Anderson introduced our speaker Todd Swift, the County Extension Agent. Todd presented a program on preparing your garden for Spring, for those who have lived up here for awhile realize you don’t just dig up the earth and plant. Our soil and amount of dirt available is not always desirable, Todd told us how to prepare the soil for best results for our crops, and how we could build raised gardens where there are too many rocks. It was a very interesting program, and many hands were raised when asked how many were going to plant a Victory Garden this year.
After the program a business meeting was conducted by President, Pearl Hedlund. The most exciting news was the report from the ladies that sold ornaments and crafts in the Courthouse during Lights Spectacular. The total sales for this past year were $9,500. The ladies are already busy making new ornaments and crafts. If you would like to help with this project, please call Joycelyn Carter at 868-7010 for times and days they work on the crafts.
The money raised will be given to different organizations in the community to beautify and serve our wonderful town that supports the club one hundred percent.
After the meeting was adjourned delicious refreshments were served by hostesses, Dolores Bozeman, Joycelyn Carter, Marj Daniel, Kay Kent and Donna McCormick. The door prize was won by Ola Matus. Our next meeting will be February 12, at the new home of Patty Elliott, and our program will be the First Bloom Program presented by a NPA Ranger. Please join us, everyone is welcome!
