This week I want to share with you some ideas of things to do with buttons. You can make your own button jar or box by decorating with fabric and buttons. I have mine in a jar sitting near the fireplace. I look for buttons at yard sales, etc. I have my grandmothers’ button jar. She kept them in a glass dish and I always played with them or peeked at them when I was at her house. I love buttons. I have a China cup on my dresser and when I buy a blouse or dress with extra buttons, they go in my cup. You can start a button collection today. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

1. Make a bracelet. Take a strip of elastic and sew buttons onto it sewing the ends together to make the bracelet. I have also made napkin rings like this but with wide elastic.

2. Make sachet bags and fill with lavender. Tie the bags with torn fabric strips and make a bow. Glue a pretty button to make the center of the bow.

3. Decorate a lampshade with matched or mismatched buttons.

4. Sew buttons on an old vest or jacket to give it new life.

5. Stitch a sampler that says, “I loved to play in Grandma’s button box” and decorate with buttons.

Use your imagination and have fun looking for buttons when you are out and about.
