Donald L. Downs, age 60, died on Sunday, 2 December 2012. He died of natural causes while bicycling on a ranch road in Johnson City, TX. He is survived by his wife Josefina “Josie” Dominguez, a teacher at LBJ High School; a sister Debbie Eaton and her husband, Mike; and a brother Dave Downs. He leaves behind the special bonds he formed with his step children, Juan Dominguez-Torres and his wife Felicia and Josie “Tita” Johnson and her husband Steve; and grandchildren Eliza and Iliana Torres and Jalen, Nathan, and Nico Johnson. Don recently retired after 33 years as a high school and college instructor. He had a Masters degree in Math, which he applied in the classroom, and a Masters in PE which he applied everyday bicycling, running, or hiking. He worked at Highland High School in Albuquerque, NM; Oñate High School in Las Cruces, NM; and Northwest Early College High School in Canutillo, TX. His body will be cremated in Austin, TX. Despite being newcomers to Johnson City, TX, the community embraced and welcomed both Don and Josefina.
