INGRAM JV - Ingram def. Johnson City 25-19, 25-22 Inconsistent passing and lack of defense proved to once again be the undoing of the JV Lady Eagles in their last road match of the season at Ingram. Freshman outside hitter Anamarie Capra built a 14-1 lead with her serve in the second set, but the locals let the game slip away immediately after. Capra and her sister, Audrey, led JC with aggressive defense. Varsity - Ingram def. Johnson City 27-25, 25-19, 25-16 A few costly ref calls turned the tide the other way in very tight first set against rival Ingram, and the Varsity Lady Eagles could never regain their composure or momentum in the games that followed, falling 3-0. Junior outside hitter Whitney Wood logged 5 kills, while sophomore middle blocker Hailey Hernandez added 3 kills and 3 blocks in the effort. Junior libero Brooke Wood led the defense with 11 digs. “It’s always tough when you lose the first game that closely, but the kids need to learn how to bounce back. Ref calls don’t always go our way but that’s part of the game. We’ve got one more game against Blanco and the kids need to give it all they’ve got. I think our younger kids are seeing the payoff on the things that they have learned this year and how it will help them and the team in the coming years. I am excited about what the future holds.” - Head Coach Michael TrujilloBLANCO JV - Blanco def. Johnson City 25-21, 22-25, 25-23 The JV Lady Eagles lost yet another close contest to a district rival on Tuesday night. The locals were narrowly edged by sin-county foe Blanco, 21-25, 25-22, 23-25. The youngsters had leads several times could not pull off the win. Sophomore setter Laura Miertschin, freshman middle blocker Michala Zbytovsky, freshman outside hitter Anamarie Capra and freshman libero Audrey Capra were cited for outstanding all-around play. Varsity - Blanco def. Johnson City 25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 25-17 The Varsity volleyball squad played hard and tough but lost a very close contest against rival Blanco in their final district match of the 2012 season. All 4 games were close and exciting. Junior outside hitter Whitney Wood paced the team with 9 kills amd 10 digs. Senior middle blocker Meredith Neely capped her high school career with 9 kills and 1.5 blocks, while sophomore middle blocker Hailey Hernandez logged 8 kills and 5 blocks. Senior setter/hitter Kaitlyn Hubbard ended her high school stint with 19 assists, 2 kills, 2 digs and 2 aces. Junior libero Brooke Wood anchored the back line with 10 digs. “This was probably the best that we have played all year, despite the loss. The kids put it all out there and never gave up. We had a few serve/receive lapses versus some of their strong servers. Their sophomore outside hitter is very outstanding and is just powerful. We will miss our two seniors but look forward to more growth and success in the future.” - Head Coach Michael Trujillo
