Probably the biggest and best news are the recent rains. Thank you, Lord!

Thank you Blanco County for a successful Emergency Services Auxiliary (ESA) Garage Sale last weekend. Despite the weather, competing events, the economy and other unforeseen circumstances, several thousand dollars will be shared between the Johnson City Volunteer Fire Department (JCVFD) and the North Blanco Emergency Medical Services (NBCEMS).

Darryl and Sharon Weisenbaugh spent the last 2 weeks traveling with Sandi and Waymon Lewis. They stopped over in Kansas at the Wizard of OZ set to see Dorothy and Toto but they were closed. They also traveled on to South Dakota and made tours of Mount Rushmore, Chief Crazy Horse site, Deadwood, and Sturgis. The travelers left there and traveled on to Wyoming and stopped at Devils Tower, ate lunch in Moorcroft, and continued on to Cody. They toured Yellowstone, watched a gunfight reenactment in Cody and then continued to Dubois, Wyoming. Then it on was on to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and drove thru the Grand Tetons. The trip continued to Colorado to Royal Gorge. Then they went on to New Mexico and stopped in Santa Fe, and onto to Ruidoso. The Weisenbaughs and Lewis had a great time the whole trip.

A free community Thanksgiving lunch will be at the First United Methodist Church from 11 to 2 on Thanksgiving Day. The Silver K restaurant will provide turkey, dressing and mashed potatoes. The church will provide the space, coffee, tea and lemonade. The diners will provide dishes to share with everyone else...salad, vegetable, dessert or bread. "This is a great way for the community to celebrate Thanksgiving together, enjoying the company of friends and neighbors and meeting new folks, too," said Kay Pratt of the Silver K.

Wilbur and Margaret Mengers flew to San Diego CA recently to bury Margaret’s uncle, WW2 Navy veteran Chief Petty Officer Harry Stark, at sea. We gathered on a 48 passenger yacht and spread his ashes in the ocean at sunset on Saturday, all according to his wishes. It was an amazing celebration of his life and a very spiritual experience.

On Friday the 30th the Happy Bookers Book club met at Silver K for lunch and then adjourned to Cynthia Smith’s home for discussion and dessert and coffee. The book that was read for September was Rain God, by James Lee Burke. It was met with a lively discussion. And by the way and maybe coincidence because each member came prepared with their own prayer for rain and in the case of Blanco county to give thanks for the rains we had received recently. Women gathering together to pray is a powerful thing!

Tip for the week: Arrange zones or stations in the kitchen to make your life simpler and easier. For example, coffee, filters, mugs, and the coffee maker should be near each other to make it easy and convenient to make coffee in the morning. Another zone may be your baking zone. Include baking supplies like flour and sugar, cookie sheets, measuring cups, etc.
