The LBJ Eagle boys basketball team continued district play this past week with games against the Ingram Tom Moore Warriors and the Comfort Bobcats. On Tuesday, January 15 LBJ traveled to Ingram. The first half was tightly contested with LBJ holding a 14-11 lead after the first period and trailing by only two points, 32-30 at halftime. However, Ingram outscored the Eagles 34-17 in the second half to come away with a 66-47 victory.
Jaxon Riebesehl led in scoring with 22 points, followed by Chase Klaerner with 11 points and Jade Cones with 10 points. Cones led in rebounding with 11 boards followed by Klaerner with 8 and Will Rutherford with 6. Wade North and Riebesehl each had 3 assists and Cones led in steals with 4.
Johnson City played Comfort at LBJ High School gym on Friday, January 18. The Eagles fell behind in the first period 15-8 but cut the lead to 26-20 going into halftime. LBJ came out hot in the third quarter going on an 8-0 run to take a 28-26 lead midway through the quarter. The Bobcats answered back with a run of their own to take a 42-28 lead heading into the fourth period. LBJ cut the lead to 8 early in the fourth but couldnt get any closer. Comfort came away with a 58-43 win.
Riebesehl was the leading scorer with 19 points followed by Cones with 12. Klaerner led in rebounding with 11 followed by Cones with 10. This week the Eagles are open on Tuesday and will play Blanco at home on Friday, January 25. The JV game will begin at 5:00 and the varsity game will start at approximately 7:30.
