Eagles Lose Close One In District Opener

The LBJ Eagle varsity boys basketball team began their 2013 district season last Friday, January 11 against the Lago Vista Vikings. The game was a thrilling contest throughout with the Eagles falling short 53-46. LBJ opened up a 11-5 lead after the first period but were outscored in the 2nd period to trail at halftime, 19-17.

Johnson City fell behind by ten points in the middle of the third period before they began an inspiring comback. The Vikings lead was cut to 35-29 to start the 4th period and the Eagles took the lead midway through the final quarter. Two long three point baskets by the Vikings gave them the lead back in the final two minutes and they were able to make some last minute free throws to come away with the victory.

Jaxon Riebesehl led the Eagles with 24 points followed by Chase Klaerner with 8 points. Will Rutherford led in rebounding with 9 followed by Jade Cones with 7. Riebesehl led the team in assists and steals with 3 of each. This week the Eagles will play at Ingram on Tuesday, January 15 and Comfort at home on Friday, January 18. The JV game against Comfort will start at 5:00 in the high school gym, the varsity game will begin at approximately 7:30. Please come out and support your Eagle boys basketball teams.
