Vitamin D
Thursday, January 10, 2013 • Posted January 11, 2013

This vitamin continues to be in the news. I get news articles from Life Extension, a company that sells vitamins and nutrients but has science behind them like a pharmaceutical company has for its products, lef.com. This website also has searchable articles that show “double placebo based human trials” for many human conditions. If you or a loved one want to find out what would help a problem you have, try this site.

The latest magazine said that they had tested all the foundation members for vitamin D levels a year ago, and found almost all were deficient. They put everyone on a vitamin D supplement, and 6 months later retested them. Only a 14% increase overall. Not good enough. When they asked them to take this supplement with their biggest meal of the day, the levels jumped up over 58%. Conclusion, vitamin D is best absorbed when taken with fats. Dr Oz comments on this vitamin all the time, and has different guests that all seem to differ. He had one on that is a doctor, and he tested his D level often, he took 17,000 IU daily. He said that if he took more his level got too high. Dr Oz mentioned he as a cardiac doctor recommended to his patients only 1000 IU. This doctor said that he believed he could cut breast cancer incidence by half if vitamin D levels were normalized. Thats far better than any cancer drug could ever think of doing. We may look back on this time and say that cancer is a vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D also manifests itself as respirational problems. With all the hayfever, and asthma, vitamin D would be a good idea. Its so cheap, costing between $3-6 a month. Chewables available also.

Scurvy , pellagra , beriberi , rickets , zerophthalmia, are nutritional deficiencies seen in history, even folic acid today found to help pregnant mothers prevent fetal problems. Deficient mothers make severely deficient babies. Its been estimated to take 6 generations of supplementation to get rid of a family deficiency. ADD and ADHD, in my opinion, are DHA deficiencies, and not many mothers believe me. Try it, it couldn’t hurt, and only could help. Its cheaper than those drugs. I know my kids see a difference in their attention and memory.
