Eagles Participate In Faith Academy Holiday Tournament

The Johnson City boys basketball team played in the Faith Academy holiday basketball tournament last week in Marble Falls. The Eagles played four games going 2-2. The Eagles opened up against San Juan Diego Catholic School of Austin. LBJ jumped out to a 41-21 halftime lead and cruised through the second half for a 72-36 victory. The Eagles had 3 players in double figures led by Jaxon Riebesehl with 23 points followed by Jade Cones with 14 points and Chase Klaerner with 12 points.Cones led in rebounding with 12 followed by Klaerner with 11.Will Rutherford led in steals with 5.

In their second game, the Eagles played the Harper Longhorns. The game was a thriller and wasnt decided till the final shot, with the Longhorns prevailing 49-46. Once again the Eagles had 3 players in double figures led by Riebesehl with 14, Cones with 12 and Rutherford with 11 points. Cones led in rebounding with 13 followed by Klaerner with 9 and Wade North with 6 boards.

On the second day of the tournament the Eagles played Heritage school of Fredericksburg. This game was also an exciting affair that came down to the final minute with LBJ earning a thrilling 40-34 victory. Riebesehl led in scoring with 11 points followed by Klaerner with 10.

In their final game of the tournament the Eagles fell to Faith Academy in overtime 56-49. Riebesehl scored a career high 28 points, Rutherford led in rebounding with 9 boards followed by Cones with 6 and North with 4.

This week the Eagles will play San Saba at LBJ High School gym on Friday, January 4. The JV game will start at 4:00 and the varsity game will begin at approximately 6:30, following the varsity girls game. The JV team will also play in the Blanco tournament on Thursday and Saturday. Their first game will be at 2:30 in the Blanco middle school gym and their second game will be at 5:00. Saturdays game time will depend on Thursday’s results.
