7th Grade B Team

The Johnson City Eagles 7th Grade B Team visited the Bobcats to close out the 2012 side of their basketball season. Although Comfort attacked early, the Eagles were able to make it close by precision passes from Toby Lopez and Keeton Kyzar. Luke Barrientes fought hard down low and retrieved several rebounds for the Eagles. While the Eagles attacked in the 2nd half, it wasn’t quite enough to rally. Final score Eagles 14 to Bobcats 18.

Sylvester Quinonez led the team in scoring with 4 and Jose Aguilar held down the defense. The team is now 1-3 and will face off in Blanco to begin the 2013 campaign.

8th Grade B Team

The Johnson City Eagles 8th Grade B team also saw action in Comfort. The Eagles came out shooting and attacking the basket.

Led by Jordan Gonsoulin’s 16 point effort, the Eagles were able to score at will against the Bobcats. Javier Cruz and Brendan Anderson forced turnovers and picked up loose balls. Drew Taylor also chipped in 2 points when Peyton Scott found him for a layup. Great work Eagles and way to get the first win of the season. Final score Eagles 22 to Bobcats 12.

The Eagles are now 1-3 and will be in Blanco after the break to take on the Panthers.

7th Grade A Team

The Johnson City Eagles 7th Grade A Team met up with a Comfort team that quarreled with the Eagles. The Eagles stumbled out of the gate and fell to a 9-0 lead after the first quarter. However, Wells Deleon and Brett Harris were able to pick it up when they attacked the paint and drew fouls. The duo would pick up 8 and 5 points, respectively. However, the A team fought an uphill battle. The raucous crowd, who got louder and louder, exploded when Garrison Wood chipped in an offensive rebound for the go-ahead bucket. The Eagles would not relinquish the lead but it did take a team effort on defense down the stretch and a blocked shot at the buzzer to seal the victory. Final score Eagles 29 to Bobcats 26.

Garrison Wood had high points with 9. Tony Medrano and Wythe Liesmann played lockdown defense. The Eagles face off against the Blanco Panthers Thursday, Jan 10. The team is now 4-0.

8th Grade A Team

The night ended when Comfort’s player could not break the trap and precious seconds ticked off the clock and the buzzer rang. It was the Eagles first victory of the season. However, getting there was about as turbulent as it gets.

The 8th Grade team was looking for an early Christmas present when they took a 12-3 lead going into the second quarter. Led by attacking the basket, finding backdoor cuts, and Steven Barrientes 12 point effort, the Eagles were able to push the lead to 28-10 at the conclusion of the third. However, there would be no gift wrapping on this night and it started to come apart. A few bad passes and a few layups later, the 18 point lead evaporated down to 3. The offense, led by point guard Walt Maenius, now had to figure out how to break the press, get to the lane, and make free-throws. Although we couldn’t get the free throws down, our defense – led by Caleb Dowdy and Nick Nolte – held just enough to survive a 15-0 run from the cats. Final score Eagles 28 to Bobcats 25.

The Eagles are now 1-3 and make it a New Year’s resolution to improve in 2013 when they will take on the panthers @ Blanco. Come out and support our teams. They’re fun to watch. Good luck and go eagles!
