Pecan Street Brewing in Johnson City is hosting a New Year's Eve shindig. Homer Whisenant & The Plainsmen will be playing on Monday night, December 31, from 8pm to midnight. The special prix fix menu is available for $35 per person, plus the Lights Spectacular menu. Watch the ball drop on their 15 foot diagonal TV. Pecan Street is located at 106 E.

After the tragic shootings that occurred in Newton, Connecticut at Sandy Hook Elementary, parents across the country have become concerned about their children’s safety and measures their districts are taking to protect them. The parents whose children attend JCISD are no different. In response to the tragedy, the JCISD administration sent a letter to parents assuring them that student safety is the district’s top priority and that emergency procedures are in place on each of the district

The light displays throughout Johnson City this year are nothing short of fabulous! If you haven’t driven around town, take time to do so because you’ll be pleasantly surprised. On Saturday evening, December 15th a panel of judges traveled Johnson City to choose the winners of the decorating contest. Along the way there were numerous homes and businesses providing spectacular and unique light displays.

Surprisingly, gas prices around town have fallen below $3 per gallon. Average retail gasoline prices in Texas have risen 2.5 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.04/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 13,114 gas outlets in Texas. This compares with the national average that has not moved in the last week to $3.24/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com. Area Pre-teens and teens will celebrate the arrival of the new year with separate Epic Events at the Youth Community Assistance Program building at 100 Nugent Avenue in JC. The fun starts at 6:30pm for 5th-8th grade students with competitions in pool, ping pong, air hockey and foosball. Blanco County’s wheelchair ramp builders finished their largest one to date, just under 100 feet long, near Canyon Lake. The couple they helped were in a car wreck and both found themselves in wheelchairs, in a house 40 inches above the ground, and with a steep slope that forced a zig-zagging design to get between the trees.

Jesus described life as a choice between two paths, one broad and easy, the other narrow and less traveled (Matthew 7:13-14). Represented by these paths are the only two options available to us: the worldly life of the broad path or the Godly life of the narrow. The fact of the matter is, we are all either walking according to the course of this world or we are walking in wisdom (Ephesians 2:2; Colossians 4:5).

7th Grade B Team The Johnson City Eagles 7th Grade B Team visited the Bobcats to close out the 2012 side of their basketball season. Although Comfort attacked early, the Eagles were able to make it close by precision passes from Toby Lopez and Keeton Kyzar. Luke Barrientes fought hard down low and retrieved several rebounds for the Eagles.

The LBJ Eagle varsity boys basketball team traveled to Harper on Friday, December 21. The Eagles fell behind in the first half but made an aggressive comeback in the second half but ultimately fell short, 67-53. The Eagles will play in the Faith Academy tournament over the holiday break. They will play two games on Thursday, December 27, taking on San Juan Diego at 11:30 and then playing Harper again at 4:00.

The 7B Lady Eagles won their third straight game with a 16-7 victory over the visiting Comfort Deer. “All the girls hustled and worked together as a team. They are improving every week,” Coach Trujillo said. Alicia Guerrero was once again the top scorer with 10 points. Jackie Henriquez and Ashtyn Portie were cited for great defense.
